Kempower has introduced a charging unit designed to serve two very different vehicle categories at once. The Mega Satellite Flex handles standard CCS charging up to 560 kW for passenger and light commercial EVs, and it also supports the Megawatt Charging System up to 1.2 MW for heavy-duty trucks. A charger that only supports CCS risks becoming outdated as MCS-equipped trucks enter service; one that only supports MCS ignores the much larger population of passenger and light commercial EVs already on the road. There is also a practical efficiency argument. The Mega Satellite Flex can deliver up to 1,500 amps for MCS and 700 amps for CCS, with cable lengths of 5 meters for CCS and 2.7 meters for MCS. It supports newer 800-volt vehicle architectures, which are increasingly common among premium EVs and next-generation electric trucks because higher voltage allows faster charging without proportionally higher current. An optional payment terminal makes the unit usable as a public-facing charge point rather than only a fleet-dedicated asset.

Fitting Into Existing Charging Networks

Kempower built the Mega Satellite Flex to work with its existing distributed charging architecture, meaning operators who already run Kempower systems can add the new unit without redesigning their power distribution setup. That compatibility matters commercially: infrastructure buildouts are capital-intensive, and any hardware requiring a parallel system tends to slow adoption. What Comes Next

Kempower revealed the Mega Satellite Flex at its Unplug & Recharge event held alongside ACT Expo, where the unit is currently on display. The company expects to bring it to market in North America and Europe in July 2026, giving fleet operators and charging network developers over a year to plan deployments. Whether dual-standard charging becomes the industry norm or a transitional solution will depend largely on how quickly MCS-equipped trucks reach the road in meaningful numbers - but for now, it offers a hedge against uncertainty that few competing products currently match.
